Since starting the DLL program, I have been able to reflect a lot on my teaching and things that work and don’t. Action research, like blended learning, is something I had never heard of, yet they are both something we have been doing to a certain extent.
As teachers we are constantly making changes to our lessons to better meet the needs of our students. Sometimes we have something on paper and when we go to teach it, we change it and fix it along the way. For me in kindergarten, I have to look at the group I have each year and teach things to meet their needs, the lesson I did with the group last year might not be the best lesson for this year’s group. Action research has 4 components: planning, acting, developing, and reflecting. For me, I think the most difficult to carry out will be the planning. Mertler says that reflecting backwards on our professional practice, having the end goal in mind, will help the planning process (2020). As educators we are constantly stopping, assessing, reflecting, tweaking, and evolving. The previous courses we have taken have helped us gather research on our innovations. I have two literature reviews that have information as to how blended learning is beneficial to education.
The following is my action research outline that will focus on student achievement through blended learning.
