The idea of having a digital space to store my coursework sounds appealing. The idea is appealing mostly because I am currently in a program that encourages students to take control of the learning. If I am going to put something out there in public, it needs to represent me and reflect my learnings.
The eportfolio cannot just be a digital storage for my coursework. The fact that some schools are giving students a domain and letting them create a space in the digital world sounds like a step in the right direction (Rikard, 2015). Yes, we can post our assignments and meet requirements, but the authenticity will come from displaying our learning. Students want a voice, they want to be challenged, and they want a voice. If more schools give students a domain, more students will get chance to voice their leaning, to reflect on their learning, to create something meaningful.
Who owns the eportfolio? I sure hope it is me, the student. I hope to authentically represent myself in the digital world.
