I had never heard the term eportfolio until I started my DLL journey at Lamar University this past August. My first course, Disruptive Innovation, introduced me to the idea of creating an eportfolio. Feeling intimidating and unsure which website to utilize, I held off as long as possible. I suppose I still was processing and understanding the meaning behind having an eportfolio.

According to Dr. Harapnuik (2019), the eportfolio is defined as “a learner’s digital evidence meaningful connections.” The more I progress in this program the more I see the benefits of having an eportfolio. I get to have a place to store my assignments and my thoughts, and also share the meaningful connections I’ve made along the way.

Why make an eportfolio? The why is simply for reflection. Research shows that reflecting on learning and experiences will benefit the learner long term. Helen Barrett (2007) states that when students reflect on experiences, it “can help students embed these experiences into their long term memory.” By reflecting on my learning in my eportfolio, I will be able to reread and share my thoughts and ideas in the future. Even today, I can look back at work I’ve done in other courses and reflect on what I’ve learned.
